What happens to a dream deferred? The answer to this question is explored in Augmented Renaissance "From Creation to Revelation", a solo performance piece, written and starring Amar Atkins. This show is in tribute to August Wilson, where five of his most popular characters are set in a 1940's Jazz Juke Joint. His works: Fences, Jitney, The Piano Lesson, and Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom served as the foundation from which I had the pleasure of creating my own story line. Live music and rhetoric were inspired by pioneers from the Harlem Renaissance such as Langston Hughes, Ella Fitzgerald, and Duke Ellington. It was first performed in December 2014 at Swine Palace Theatre and has now attracted the attention of several regional universities and theatres.
